TFT Overlay Without Overwolf: Which TFT Tools Need It?

By · How we make guides · Updated 2026-09-27 · Checked against Set 18, patch 18.3 · 4 min read

Short answer: Yes, you can run a TFT overlay or companion app without Overwolf. TFTSense is a standalone Windows 10 and 11 app that reads only your screen and never game memory, and Blitz also installs as its own Windows program. Mobalytics, MetaTFT, and TFT Academy send you to Overwolf to install their in-game apps, and tactics.tools is a website with nothing to install.

Disclosure: TFTSense is our product. Every fact about the other tools below comes from that tool’s own website, checked on 2026-09-27 and linked under the table. Where a vendor’s page does not say something, the table says “not stated” rather than guessing.

Overwolf app, standalone app, or website: what changes

  • Overwolf app. The tool runs on Overwolf, a separate platform installed alongside it that hosts in-game overlays for many games. You keep two things on your PC: the app and the platform under it. Mobalytics, MetaTFT, and TFT Academy all point their in-game app downloads there.
  • Standalone Windows app. The tool installs like any other Windows program, with no platform underneath. TFTSense and Blitz work this way.
  • Website. Nothing to install, and it works on any device, but a website cannot draw on top of your game, so you alt-tab or use a second screen. tactics.tools is web only, and the other tools have websites too.

How TFTSense works without Overwolf

TFTSense reads the game the way you see it: computer vision on your own screen. It never reads game memory and needs no platform underneath it, so the whole install is one Windows 10 or 11 app. From what it reads, it makes live calls for your board: which comp to commit to, BUY, CONSIDER, or SKIP on each shop slot, when to level or roll, and which item to build next from the components you hold. The full list is on the features page, and the installer is on the download page.

The trade-off is the flip side of reading the screen: it runs on Windows 10 and 11 only, with no Mac or mobile version, and it covers TFT only.

Does skipping Overwolf make an overlay safer?

Not by itself, and we will not promise that any tool is safe from account action, ours included. Only Riot decides what is allowed in its games. What we can tell you is exactly what TFTSense reads: your screen, and never game memory. Our guide are TFT overlays safe covers the question in more depth.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a TFT overlay without Overwolf?

Yes. TFTSense is a standalone app for Windows 10 and 11 that does not use Overwolf; it reads only your screen and never game memory. Blitz is also a standalone Windows download from its own site. Mobalytics, MetaTFT, and TFT Academy point their in-game app downloads to Overwolf, and tactics.tools is a website with nothing to install.

Does TFTSense use Overwolf?

No. TFTSense installs as its own Windows program. It reads only what is on your screen and never reads game memory, so it needs no Overwolf client or any other platform underneath it.

Can I use TFT tools without installing anything?

Yes. Stats websites such as tactics.tools run in your browser, and MetaTFT, Mobalytics, and TFT Academy also have websites. A website cannot draw on top of your game, so you alt-tab or keep it on a second screen.

Is a TFT overlay without Overwolf safer?

The install method alone does not decide that, and we do not promise that any tool is safe from account action: only Riot decides what is allowed in its games. What we can state is what each tool reads. TFTSense reads only your screen and never game memory. Our guide on whether TFT overlays are allowed covers the question in more depth.
